河北建工集团前身为河北省建筑工程局，成立于1952年。1983年改为河北省建筑工程总公司，1987年增设河北省建筑业管理局职能，负责全省建筑业行业管理，与河北省建筑工程总公司合署办公。1997年经省政府批准，以省建筑工程总公司为核心企业，以省第二、第四建筑工程公司和省安装工程公司、省建筑设计研究院为紧密层企业组建了河北建工集团。同年，河北省建筑工程总公司改制为河北建工集团有限责任公司。
