1971年，竹内开发了一台2吨级具有摆动臂和360度全回转结构的小型挖掘机（TB1000），从此竹内作为建机生产企业跨出了一步。今天，竹内仍在国内以及海外不断地挖掘6吨以下小型挖掘机的新需求、新功能。继成功地开拓小型挖掘机等建机事业之后，竹内又开创了搅拌机械制造事业以及环境保护机械制造事业。这“三位一体”的事业均贯彻了从开发，到生产、销售、售后服务的独立经营的体制，同时，这些技术为竹内继续开发以改善“地球环境”为目标的新产品提供了综合利用的基础。

海外市场的竹内

在年工作时间2000小时以上，苛刻的工作环境远远超出日本的欧美小型挖掘机市场，经现场大量使用，“竹内品牌”获得了超群的评价。面对91年以后的日本国内挖掘机市场逐步萎缩，竹内的产品不断扩大海外市场，多年保持稳定的增长。今天，海外出口占据了公司全营业额的9成以上，成为代表“日本制造”的一道亮丽的风景线。

竹内工程机械（青岛）有限公司位于青岛市黄岛区，是由日本竹内制作所独资建立的海外生产基地。公司成立于2005年，注册资本1600万美元，投资总额3642万美元，于2006年10月正式投产。
