三星物产是韩国三星集团的前身。2008年3月28日，三星物产正式更名为三星集团。英文名：SAMSUNGC&T，其中C&T说明了三星物产的两块业务（Construction&Trading），同时也有创新（creative）和技术（technology）的含义。

三星集团（全球知名综合性企业）成立于1938年，创办人为李秉喆，公司最初主要出口朝鲜南半岛的鱼干、蔬菜和水果，1950年代逐步扩展为制糖、制药、纺织等制造业，并确立为家族制企业。1975年，三星物产成为韩国一级贸易商，主做大宗贸易和投资业务。1995年九月，三星物产合并了韩国三星建设公司。三星物产从此形成了集贸易、投资、工程与建设为一体的综合商业体系。2008年实现销售收入91116亿韩元（约合82亿美元），净收入3391亿韩元（约合3.05亿美元）。三星物产在财富世界500强企业中排名492名（2011年）。另外三星集团的其他两个分公司三星电子和三星生命也分别在世界500强中排第22名和第333名。可见三星集团在世界的影响力。

目前，三星物产将其事业领域划分为贸易投资部门和工程建设部门，其中贸易投资部门以贸易机能为主，主要进口商品包括能源、化工和机械。另外，也从事项目组织业务、开发石油和天然气等自然资源和发展中国家私人项目的投资。而工程建设部门则拥有着象征先进施工技术的6个核心产品领域的技术，包括建造摩天大楼、高科技工厂设施、道路和桥梁、港口、发电厂和公寓园区，在全世界范围内从事着各种建设，包括民用工程、产业工厂、土地开发以及核电站建设等。

2010年1月4日，历时五年，被称为“人类的挑战”的世界最高建筑迪拜塔（又名哈利发塔）顺利完工，而这就是由三星物产承建的标志性建筑。三星物产参与了从设计到设备购买、施工、试运行等全过程。正是有了迪拜塔的开拓，来自阿联酋的高收益项目订单便纷纷而至。比如，2008年7月三星物产冲出法国阿尔斯通等世界大企业的重围，夺得了高达8.1亿美元的阿联酋阿布扎比Shuweihat电力公司的S2发电全套设备的建造订单。

三星物产硕果累累，除了前面提到的迪拜塔，马来西亚最高的标志性建筑“双子塔”和台北“101大楼”也都是出自三星物产之手。
