医院是中山大学最大的临床教学基地，承担医学本科60％以上的临床教学任务，拥有22个博士，32个硕士学位授权点，博士生导师105人，硕士生导师233人，国家级继续教育医学基地1个、卫生部进修基地13个、临床研究所2个、临床研究治疗中心6个和临床研究实验室14个，其中肾脏病临床研究实验室和辅助循环实验室是卫生部重点实验室。
