南丰蜜桔为我国古老柑桔的优良品种之一,是江西省的名贵特产之一。历史上就以果色金黄、皮薄肉嫩、食不存渣、风味浓甜、芳香扑鼻而闻名中外。据《禹贡》记载,早在两千多年以前,南丰一带所产的柑桔,就已列为“贡品”。唐宋八大家之一的曾巩,曾写诗赞美家乡的柑桔:“鲜明百数见秋实,错缀众叶倾霜柯。翠羽流苏出天仗,黄金戏球相荡摩。入苞岂数桔柚贱,宅鼎始足盐梅和。江湖苦遭俗眼慢,禁御尚觉凡木多。谁能出口献天子,一致大树凌沧波。”当时蜜桔已能献给天子,故南丰蜜桔又有“贡桔”的美誉,曾被斯大林同志誉为“桔中之王”。

目前已经选育出大果、小果、桂花蒂、早熟、短枝、无核等各具特色的优良品系和株系。每个品系各具独特的风味。大果:是南丰蜜桔的丰产品种,果形大,树势强健,叶子相对较大,抗逆性好。小果:又称金钱蜜桔,品质特优,皮薄,核少,每果平均种子在1粒左右,含糖量高,香味浓郁,汁多味佳。桂花蒂:也称柿蒂,蒂大而凸起,形状桂花而得名,香味和贮藏性能都较好。早熟蜜桔:比其他品系提前成熟20天左右。短枝株系:指桔枝短,节间密而枝条粗壮,叶片深绿,适宜密植。无核品系:指种子极少,每10个果中,仅有1-2个种子,味香甜。

南丰蜜桔食用价值和药用价值都很高,全身都是宝。鲜果营养丰富,在100毫升果汁中含糖11.3克,柠檬酸约1克,维生素C19.5毫克,溶性固性物14%(主要是糖、氨基酸、磷、铁、钙等元素)。桔皮有理气健脾、祛湿化痰的作用;桔络有通络舒筋、顺气活血的功效;桔核能理气、散结、止痛。南丰蜜桔还可以作为加工业的原料,如用桔皮提炼的橙皮甙能制成防治动脉粥样硬化、心肌梗塞的药品;用果肉酿酒、酿醋,制作出蜜桔香槟酒、蜜桔可乐等,具有独特的香味。用桔皮桔花可提炼出天然果胶和香精,安全、广泛地应用于食品工业和医药工业。南丰蜜橘又称金钱蜜橘,福建称邵武蜜橘,原产江西南丰(国内唯一原产地)。其主要特点:树势中等,树冠半圆头形,开张,枝梢细长而密;果实扁圆形,单果重25~50克,果色橙黄,较光滑,皮薄易剥;果肉柔软多汁,风味浓甜,可溶性固形物14%,糖含量10~11克/100毫升,酸含量0.9~1.0克/100毫升,品质上等;果实11月上、中旬成熟,无核或少核。南丰蜜橘喜温、喜光照,适应性广,能耐-7℃低温。果小皮薄质优,因其采收费事、采前裂果等原因发展不快。可在江西南丰等地发展。

南丰蜜桔经过近十几年来的迅猛发展,南丰蜜桔销售网点已覆盖全国,在全国地级以上城市均建有直销点,还远销东南亚、俄罗斯及英国、芬兰、瑞士、加拿大、智利、阿塞拜疆等世界各大洲的近30个国家和地区,2008年出口量达10万吨(2亿斤),约占总产量的16%。预计09年出口将超20万吨,成为国内柑桔出口的第一品牌。
