1995年，（株）河合乐器制作所与北京钢琴厂在北京举行签约仪式，双方开始合作生产KAWAI钢琴。2002年，卡瓦依与在中国上海设立了河合贸易（上海）有限公司，2003年与柏斯琴行收购的宜昌金宝乐器制造有限公司，在湖北宜昌开始生产立式钢琴。

2004年，在中国浙江省宁波市成立钢琴零件生产公司河合乐器（宁波）有限公司。

2008年元月30日，国家大剧院和日本河合乐器制作所、河合贸易（上海）有限公司，举行卡瓦依钢琴交接仪式。刘诗昆、李双江、王立平、蔡国庆、汪燕燕、张政、孙颖等艺术界知名人士出席了交接仪式并作即兴表演。

在交接仪式上，国家大剧院的院长，河合乐器日本总公司的河合社长作为主办方的代表致词。日本国驻华大使馆道上尚史公使到会并致词祝贺。

中国国家大剧院是中国音乐的殿堂，落成之际引进了22台钢琴，河合乐器的日本产的钢琴占其中的17台。卡瓦依也是该剧场引进的唯一亚洲钢琴品牌。

在中国，高级钢琴因为价格较高，普通家庭市场没有得到充分认知。而在音乐学院等专业院校市场上，卡瓦依品牌得到了非常高的评价，近两年，卡瓦依的市场份额得到快速发展。

此次国家大剧院引进卡瓦依钢琴，也是因为卡瓦依钢琴在广大音乐院校得到很高评价的缘故。
