四川岷江水利电力股份有限公司注册地为阿坝州汶川县下索桥，注册资本50412万元，以水利电力开发为主业，配套与水电有关的发、输及供电设施业务，经营范围为电力生产、电力购售。岷江水电前身为阿坝州草坡电厂，1993年12月经四川省体改委批准，以阿坝州草坡电厂为主体，联合阿坝州信托投资公司、四川省地方电力开发公司、四A集团公司、四川省中小型电力实业开发公司及成都华西电力（集团）股份有限公司等六家企业共同发起，以定向募集方式设立而成股份有限公司。1998年3月11日，经中国证券监督管理委员会批准，向社会公众发行普通股票3500万股，并于1998年4月2日在上海证券交易所挂牌交易。截止2010年期末，岷江水电总股本50412.52万股，总资产22亿元。 

岷江水电拥有相对完整的电力系统，拥有权益装机总计348MW左右，其中直属铜钟、下庄、沙牌、草坡四座发电厂的装机容量约150MW 。公司共有输变线路35条，总长307多公里，其中：110KV线路16条；35KV线路13路；10KV线路6条。公司拥有4座35KV变电站和8座110KV变电站，12座变电站设备总变电容量568300KVA。

岷江水电先后参股四川福堂水电有限责任公司、黑水冰川水电开发有限公司、金川杨家湾水电力开发有限公司、理县九加一水电开发有限责任公司、汶川浙丽水电开发有限公司、天威四川硅业有限责任公司等，并不断加强规范管理，优化资产结构，提高对外投资收益。
