南昌理工学院是教育部批准设置的普通本科高校，2009年获学士学位授予权单位，2012年学校顺利通过国家教育部本科教学合格评估，2015年学校与华东交通大学签订联合培养研究生协议，现已正式培养。

学校以“航天科教，兴我中华”为办学宗旨，秉承“科学、求实、厚德、创新”的校训。

学校占地面积3400余亩，校舍总建筑面积74万平方米，馆藏图书300余万册，各种教育资产总计达17.03亿，教学仪器设备总值1.82亿。

学校专任教师1445人中具有硕士以上学位教师962人，占专任教师66.6％；具有高级职称教585人，占专任教师40.5％。 学校自有专任教师中，有博、硕导82人，博士244人。学校聘请中国探月工程科学家、中科院欧阳自远院士为荣誉校长，中科院王梓坤院士为学术委员会名誉主任。

学校设有19个学院2个教学部，下设本科专业61个、专科专业54个，有在校生2.7万余人。尤其2017年，学校新设飞行技术本科专业，与国内外飞行学校、航空公司强强联合，培养具有扎实飞行理论、过硬飞行能力和社会责任意识的飞行人才。

学校教师共出版专著和教材160部，专利69项；发表学术论文2769篇，其中中文核心197篇，被SCI、EI、ISTP和CSSCI收录102篇。
