仰恩大学由爱国华侨吴庆星先生及其家族设立的仰恩基金会于1987年创办，是具有颁发国家本科学历证书和授予学士学位资格的民办大学。2008年以良好的成绩通过教育部本科教学工作水平评估，成为福建省通过本科教学工作水平评估的民办大学。仰恩大学现有8个学院，5个直属系部，18个本科专业，涵盖经、管、文、法、工五大学科门类。在管理体制上实行董事会领导下的校长负责制；在发展方式上走以质量提升为核心的内涵式发展道路。目前，学校正朝着“开放型、国际化”现代大学的目标迈进。

学校占地2000余亩，校园依山傍水、风景秀丽。拥有专业的同步录制数字化教室、多媒体语言教室，建有平面设计实验室、音频实验室和计算机监控实验室等各类专业实验室、大型模拟实习基地和校内外实践教学基地。有省级公共基础课实验教学平台和 “十二五”高等学校实验教学示范中心各一个。学校还设有满足教学、科研需要的大型图书馆和能容纳万人的文体中心以及各类运动场地。

学校聘请多名来自美国、英国、加拿大等国的专家、教授在校执教，学校与台湾高校已进入深度合作交流，多方位开展教师和学生的交流交换活动，与台湾暨南国际大学等高校签署了合作交流协议，由台湾高校组成的教授团定期来我校授课，我校每年选派师生赴台湾高校进行交流学习。与此同时，我校与美国、英国的高校也开展了多层次、多领域的合作交流。

学生在学校规定的学习年限内，修完教学计划所规定的全部课程，并完成所有教学环节，达到毕业要求，由学校颁发国民教育系列普通高等教育(教育部电子注册)本科毕业证书。凡已达到毕业要求，并达到学校学位授予条件的学生，由学校授予其相应的学士学位。成绩和综合素质表现优秀的学生，学校将加授金牌学士学位或银牌学士学位。
