中央人民广播电台,前身是于1940年12月30日在中国革命地点延安诞生的人民广播电台--延安新华广播电台。1949年3月25日延安新华广播电台(撤出延安以后,改名 陕北新华广播电台 )开始在北平播音,使用北平新华广播电台呼号,1949年12月5日,正式定名为中央人民广播电台。

中央人民广播电台在中国各省、自治区、直辖市、计划单列市及香港特别行政区、澳门特别行政区设有40个记者站,在中国台湾地区派有驻点记者;解放军四总部、各大军区、各军兵种、武警部队等也分别设置18个军事记者站,为中央台提供信息。中央人民广播电台发起成立了拥有全国140多家电台的中国广播联盟,并携手世界各大华语广播机构建立了全球华语广播网,与全球大多数国家和地区的传媒机构建立了广泛的业务合作关系。
