洪湖市洪湖浪米业有限责任公司前身为前洪湖市米厂。2000年初，湖北粮食系统进行大力阔斧的改革改制。原国有粮食加工企业洪湖市米厂，在上级有关文件的要求下，主动出击，在全市国有粮食系统实行“企业改革改制，职工全员买断”的改革，通过出售洪湖市米厂的资产，实现了全员置换身份，买断工龄，将洪湖市米厂整体改制为民营企业，并于2000年5月，重新注册为民营的洪湖市食为天有限责任公司。
改革后公司实行技术、产品升级，积极开拓大米加工产业。制度创新带给公司崭新发展空间，公司当年就甩掉亏损多年的帽子，一举赢利80多万元。2003年，洪湖市油脂工贸公司面临停产困境，洪湖市粮食局党委再次把目光聚集到洪湖市食为天有限责任公司，希望公司能整体收购市油脂工贸公司。公司法人代表刘志祥个人筹资290多万元，整体收购了市油脂工贸公司，解决了拖欠职工买断金、养老金等改革遗留问题。2003年1月，公司重新注册更名为洪湖市洪湖浪米业有限责任公司，并迁入洪湖城区沿河路91号。
2006年5月，湖北省香港黄金招商周期间，在内地和香港同时上市的中兴通讯公司也参加了活动。那时中兴通讯公司准备发展生物能源新产业，在获悉了洪湖浪米业在夹缝中实现跨越发展，探索循环经济发展模式的历程后，侯为贵董事长亲赴洪湖，在对公司进行了实地考察之后，决定投资洪湖。
2006年年11月，洪湖浪米业与中兴通讯公司旗下的中兴发展公司正式合作，双方共同出资，成立中兴能源（湖北）有限公司。
目前公司是中兴能源（湖北）有限公司的全资子公司。以粮油生产、购销储存、精深加工为主营业务。下设粮食购销企业11家、收购站点30多个；日产150吨大米加工厂8家；日处理200吨油料加工厂3家；联营油脂加工厂2家和大米加工厂6家；仓库总库存面积50多万平方米。公司的粮食产业化经营，带动全市及周边地区40多万农户每年增加农民收入5亿多元。
