在二十世纪二、三十年代,美国人将用于造就举重运动员的力量训练,和用于训练宇航员柔韧性的健身操,演变为普通民众可享受的健身需求与生活乐趣。在美国健美之父McFadden、有氧运动之父KennethCooper、健身俱乐部的模式缔造者JackIalinee等人的推动下,健身房文化已成为美国现代文化中一道独特风景,同时美国亦成为世界健身产业的起源地。
