南京四明眼镜店有限责任公司创建于1937年5月，是由史云林等四位浙江宁波人合股创立的,迄今已有70多年的历史。“四明”的名称来源于四人合股，加之过去人们称戴眼镜者为四眼，希望四只眼睛都明亮，故取名为四明眼镜店。四明从创建开始就坐落于南京的太平南路商业中心，当时的服务对象主要是达官贵人和商界名流，当时的国民党参谋总长顾祝同等均是四明的常客，在1943年---1947年的4年间四明就开设了三家分店，当时在同行内和社会上就享有较高的声誉，1956年公司合营后，改称为国营四明眼镜店。八十年代后期至九十年代初，是四明创建后发展最辉煌的时期。
